Main Requirements for Premises

The state has special regulations for the general condition, structure, and used materials of the shop. We are going to underline the minimal requirements for it:

  • First of all, the operator has to provide the plan of the construction, as part of the application procedure.
  • Secondly, all the floors, ceilings, walls, and working surfaces of the facility hast to be flat, without cracks and holes. Besides, all the surfaces inside the shop have to be washable and easily sanitized after each client. To prevent potential contamination, the operation room must be separated from the other rooms.
  • The technician has to take effective measures against the entrance of any type of insect. The latter may easily transfer infectious diseases.
  • The tattooing artist has to consider the privacy request of the clients. That is to say, the operator has to close the room and exclude any possibility of screening.
  • The facility must have good light sources and strong ventilation. The surface, where the instruments and sharps are, must have good light on it.
  • No animals can enter the shop. Only those that are guiding the people with disabilities may enter the building. Fish aquariums should be only in nonprocedural rooms.
  • Special regulations exist related to hand-sinks and toilets.
  • At least one waste container must be for each operator’s room and in each toilet area.
  • The instruments should be cleaned and packed in a closed container.
  • All reusable clothes have to be sterilized.

The Laws

It doesn’t matter if a body art technician works in a facility that has North Dakota tattoo license. There are legal rules and procedures that he/she must follow.

For example, it is illegal to provide tattooing services to an individual who is under 18 years of age. The parent or a legal guardian has to be present during the procedure, moreover, the latter should provide written consent.

Teens under 16 years old cannot receive a piercing. Legally, adults that are 18 years old can receive a piercing without parental consent. However, they are to provide an official valid ID. The legal guardians must show an ID too.

The Fees

There are general requirements that the state uses as a guideline in the sphere of body art. However, each county has its licensing regulations that determine the fees and other conditions. For example, some counties use a Safe Body Art Act as a “manual” to maintain standards. At the same time, each county offers different fees and qualifications to prove training and experience.

That’s why we can’t give you a certain amount of the fees that you will have to pay in this sphere. However, you can contact the local health departments to get info on the necessary payments. They will also give you a concrete list of the documents that you will need.
